Every hockey player should always be working to perfect all aspects of their skating technique.  The goal is to become the best and fastest skater that you can be - not to become the best and fastest skater on the team.  Striving to be the best skater on the team puts you in danger of settling for less than your personal best.

You'll never achieve 100% perfection in your stride.  But you should never give up trying to achieve it.  As coach John Wooden, one of the most successful coaches in any sport once said, "When I am through learning, I am through."  So get out of your comfort zone, especially in practice, and try new things to improve all aspects of your skating technique.
